Blacks with Power

To me this does not seem like an important issue. What is important is that it is an issue at all. Many Americans today do not seem to understand patriotism. All these rednecks are too focused on how Obama is black rather than that changes he is capable of making. People don't like the idea of power being in the hands of blacks for some reason. Black patriotism is about change for the better. Too many people think that patriotism is keeping things the same and loving your country. That is not what patriotism is. Patriotism is loving your country and wanting it to be the best that it can be even if that means change. Any change made to the country will be made for the better. And to me that isn't necessarily a black point of view but a true patriot point of view. Many white people probably have this view as well. It's not a matter of color, but a matter of love for your country.

Food Crisis

Finally it seems we have finally ran into a problem we saw coming for years now. World hunger. Well, not really WORLD hunger but many countries hunger. Many third world countries have been struggling recently for food. As i said we have seen this coming for years but we have decided not to do much about it. But I think since it is finally taking affect we need to act NOW. TIME magazine has given us three ways to help this growing problem. Step 1. Give farmers in poor countries access to high-yield seeds and fertilizer. 2. Stop the biofuel nonsense. And 3. help farmers protect crops from drought and other disasters. And if none of these solutions work I have another. Ramen. They are like 15 cents each.

China is Mad

Recently there has been a great deal of media from many countries talking about China. And all of the problems that they have been having with the Olympics. As I previously posted on my blog there has been protest at every single stop of the Olympic torch. And I think that this all is being put on China. So far they have tried to ignore it but now many Chinese are speaking out through things such as websites and blogs. The reason it is probably making them so angry is simply because they don't want to be having this trouble when they are is close to the Olympics. I'm sure like every other country they want to run a problem free fun Olympics.

DDA

Raid of a Polygamist Sect

Recently in a town in Texas a polygamist sect was raided. I'm sure you have heard of this. During the raid there were over 400 children taken by the law enforcement. Recently the polygamist have been speaking out about the removal of the children, they don't feel it was fair they were taken. I personally don't agree with the multiple wife idea. I think it is sick and not right. But when it comes to the children being taken away it was something the law had to do. The parents broke the law practicing polygamy and the children were taken. It is legitimate. Though I'm sure it has caused the children and the parents a great deal of heartache.

The Democrats Rule the Web

This is a post based on an article in the recent TIME magazine. It is primarily about how the Democratic party rules the web. I believe it is like this because of Obama. He has gathered many young voters to join his side and I think they have made the huge impact on the web for the Dems. I believe that the Democratic party has more "new-age" members who are up to date with the web and technology in general. To me it just seems like the reason that makes the most sense. I believe that this technology lead will help the Democrats a great deal. Because the candidates sites are primarily about raising money for the race. And if enough people donate online, it will help the candidates a great deal. I'm sure they get millions of visits from supporters a day. But then again the Republican party is using the web in a similar-money raising-way. Maybe they will take the lead in the technology race. I doubt it.

G. Brown

G standing for Gordon. Gordon Brown is the current Prime minister of Britain. But recently his approval ratings have been going down. Apparently citizens of Britain feel that mister Brown lacks "vision". I don't understand why they think that though. He has obviously shown interest in moving forward. April 17th he met with President Bush and the three delegates hoping to take his spot. To me that seems like Gordon is trying to see other parts of the world, and trying to understand better ways to run his country. Also he comes to America occasionally for vacations.

Canada, Wants to Leave

This is yet another post based on a TIME magazine article. The magazine article is called "Woe, Canada!" and it is primarily about how many Canadians are wanting to pull out of Afghanistan. In a recent poll, information was gathered showing that 47% of Canadians want their soldiers pulled out of Afghanistan A.S.A.P. and only 17% thought they should stay.I personally believe they should stay as long as we do. I think this because if Canada leaves it will obviously hurt the rebuilding of the country of Afghanistan, it will slow it down. It would just be better in general if Canada would stay.

Postcard: Inner Mongolia

This post is my response to an article in the latest TIME magazine. The article is called "Postcard: Inner Mongolia". It is mainly about a group of people in China's society known as the Oroqen. The Oroqen are a group that live in the woods, alone and away from society. There whole existence relies on their hunting. The Oroqen are major hunters. It has been a part of society ever since the group formed. In 1996 the Chinese government outlawed hunting. Now hunting is only allowed in certain parts of the year. This has made a major impact on the Oroqen society. As I have previously mentioned, hunting is a huge part of the Oroqen way. I believe the hunting should be aloud for the Oroqen year round. But then again it could be a good thing for them. It could bring them closer to civilization.

Leave the GDP Alone

This is a article that is featured in the recent Time magazine. It is written about the GDP. Or the Gross Domestic Product. Currently the government is going to revise the GDP which will prove if the USA has slipped into a recession. But the problem is there are still revisions that will be done after this one. So there is no reason to revise the GDP. If we do and it seems we have slipped into recession, everyone will be freaking out. But the truth could be we haven't and we wouldn't know that until the next revision. So in my opinion there is no reason to review the GDP to see if or if not the USA has went into a rescission.

Help the Hippie Chimps

Recently in Africa there has been a problem with the Bonobo chimps. They are an endangered species, but they are one of the most fascinating animals in the world. Instead of being violent with one another the Bonobo solve there problems with sexual relations. In order to save this animal the African gov. is starting something called the Bonobo Conservation Initiative. This is a part of the forest around the size of Massachusetts, that will be protected for the Bonobo and 10 other species of chimp. Including elephants and okapi, a short necked cousin of the giraffe. This is a great, and somewhat surprising thing that the African gov. is doing this. It will deffinantly increase the bonobo population. Which is a great thing, the BCI is a great idea.

The Torch Gets Burned

Currently on the Olympic torch's travel around the world it has been facing some problems. Major problems. At every stop of the torch so far there have been many protesters. Pro-Tibet Protesters. One of the largest protest not necessarily people wise but impact wise was in San Fransisco. Protesters climbed up the wires of the Golden Gate Bridge and hung up Pro-Tibet banners (pictured above). I think the protesting has to taking a tole. The protesters seem to be getting somewhere and really getting there opinion out there.

Profile: Zimbabwe

The current leader in Zimbabwe is Robert Mugabe. And some people have a problem with that. The person with the biggest problem with Mugabe is probably Morgan Tsvangirai. He has come close to removing Mugabe from leadership before, but now he may be even closer. The main reasons he has never been able to remove Mugabe is because every time he did, his life was at risk. But this hasn't stopped him, he is still speaking out against Mugabe at every presidential election. He has even started a group, that is anti-Mugabe, but a short while ago the group broke into two because some people didn't think that Morgan would make a good leader after Mugabe. Which could be quit true. Mugabe has totally brought Zimbabwe to rock bottom. But it seems that Morgan may have what it takes to remove him and turn it all around.

Back in Baghdad

This is a magazine article in the recent Time magazine. It is about Baghdad's improvement. They have improved in many ways including airlines, they have got newer planes. Another update to the new Baghdad is drive-through security. The main thing I get out of this article is the happiness for Baghdad's success. It is great that they are updating everything it shows that our efforts overseas have been paying off, if not a lot at least in some aspects of the Baghdad way of life.

The Pope <3 America

The current pope is the second pope to have visited America. His name is Benedict XVI. He has shown more (how should I word this) love? for America than any other pope in the past. He is a German. The first time he had ever encountered America he was 18 years old. He was an injured German soldier who watched as the opposing force America, helped rebuild his city. When they could have easily destroyed it. I think this is a great story. Along with showing me the popes love for America this article in Time magazine has shown me the strength and care of America. I love the fact that we could go to war with Germany and still after it is all over help them clean up. Much like we are doing overseas today.

A Lion Meets His Winter

Robert Gabriel Mugabe. The lion. His loss of presidency. His winter. This article is about a place called Zimbabwe. Recently on walls next to election posters for presidential candidates in Zimbabwe a large amount of political graffiti has been popping up. One of the etches simply saying "enough". I think has a great deal of meaning to it. Something has to be done in places like this. The presidents are corrupted and treat there people poorly. Even if the votes are counted fairly, which is doubtful, and Mugabe loses his place there still may be poor economics and a struggling society. As I said something needs to be done in Zimbabwe and in many places to insure peoples freedom and to ensure peoples safety from the government.

Nudge

This new book is about decisions. Not just about them but, it's about improving them. It is 293 pages about improving decisions concerning health, wealth, and all around happiness. It describes how people make decisions based on others. For example if you give someone there electric bill and it is high it may not have an effect on them to stop using so much. But if you give them their bill compared to say their neighbors. They will stop using so much electricity. Another good example is to put healthy food in the front of a school lunch line rather than at the end. This will encourage the kids to choose the healthy foods first and fill there tray with that.
What's interesting about this book is it gives a way to give people choices yet nudge them towards the correct or more beneficial one. Hints the title "Nudge". I myself do not own and have not read this book yet. But I am sure it will be great. It seems to open minds about decision making and may help you make better decisions.

The Clean Energy Scam

Today everyone is looking for a new way to help the planet. A new way to "think green". But it has been discovered it may not be as great as we think. There may be a scam behind the aspect of a green earth. We could be losing money.
Some of us don't even realize how much we hurt the planet. We are hurting the planet everyday on a large scale just by buying soybeans. Or perhaps more accurately our way of getting them. Everyday forest are destroyed for land and resources to grow soybeans. This isn't right. I think we need to be true about helping the world be and stay healthy. There should be no sort of money being made off of people "thinking' they are helping the world. Also if the growing of soybeans destroys forest. Lets stop growing them or find a new way to.

The Ghost of Memphis

In two days it will be the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. The assassination took place outside of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. King was in town to support local garbage workers. He was 39 years old when he died at 6:00 P.M. on April 4th, 1968. Which means he has been dead longer than he lived. This is amazing to think when looking at how much progress the man is still making today. His impact on society was absolutely amazing. He has made us all think of who we are and how we should treat others. He is a true hero. Among with the group of people with King there were four men who were really close to him, and have now said what happend on that day. Rev. Billy Kyles said he thought he was having a nightmare. Rev. James Bevel thought it was just someone playing a trick at the moment then he realized Martin wouldn't do that. Rev. Jesse Jackson said the police thought it was one of them, that came with their guns drawn so they all pointed to were the shot had came from. Andrew Young said when he came out of the door he asked Martin if he wanted to go back in and get his coat, Martin responded "Do I really need a coat?" then it happend.

Patriot Games

When it comes to the Olympics there has always been someone wanting to boycott. The reason, usually is the location of that years Olympic games. It is quit often for reasons such as war or something personal between two countries. Recently some people wanting to boycott the upcoming Olympics are Hollywood icons. Icons such as Steven Spielberg, Richard Gere, and Mia Farrow. Their reasoning is Darfur and Tibet. I do not think the Olympics should be boycotted. I think a bigger point is made by going to the games in a country you don't agree with rather than staying at home. We need to go to the games to show people we are proud of our country.

Postcard: Bhutan

Currently in Bhutan there is a change going on. Democracy is coming in. Bhutan is a peaceful country that sits between the giants India and China. On March 24, Bhutan will be having its first ever general election. However there are many concerns on the idea of "change" in Bhutan. One of the biggest concerns is that Bhutan is extremely religious. The reason this may pose a problem is because the country is doing great for itself right now but if you throw in government this may change. I think it would be great to see Bhutan pick up democracy, this way every ones voices could be heard. That way the country could prosper and become an amazingly pleasant and peaceful place.
